DISCIPLINE is Success

Discipline is Success

The matter that deserted a deep impression on my cognitive faculty was the article of Teodoro Valencia which is all about discipline, the ugly word that spells success.
We should realize that discipline should be the core values of all the virtues in order to attain our very goal in life. Thus, in every action that we will make, we could never accomplish something if we don't have discipline to ourselves. Even the values like patience and perseverance; we could not acquire it if we tend to neglect the word discipline. On the other words, discipline must be obtained first before the other values as if discipline is the dominator of all the virtues. Yet, discipline requires consistency not just in times of necessity. Therefore, procuring this kind of virtue must be internalized well, as much as possible let's make it a habit.

Furthermore, the success of our nation depends on how we discipline the inhabitants. It simply implies that even how destitute the country is, if only the people are well discipline, progress will surely take place. In connection, our country is suffering from this affliction. Because many of us are not well discipline, it is may be the primary reason why Philippines is in stagnant status. We can still feel and perceive the undesirable situation of our country. Thus, I’m pretty sure that all we need is discipline. It may be hard for us to become consistent and to have a resolute stand for discipline, but it is the only way that would help us to unleash the poverty and break the manacled of our nation that keep on restraining the progress.

Genetically Modified Organisms: bane or boon

Genetically Modified Organisms

The uprising population throughout the world demands for tremendous needs of nutrition, mainly for survival. Malnutrition is one of the undying effects of poor nutrition, which is self-evident to the majority.  Children are the vulnerable individuals that are most affected by this condition. Rough skin and hair, bony physique and poor eyesight are some of the notable manifestations of these deficiencies. Death is the final resort if not directed immediately.
Most places where high cases of malnutrition are rampant are located on deserted, arid and impotent lands where survival is almost impossible. The alarming situation had made the scientist to create a sophisticated response in eradicating the said problem. From how many years of studying with several trials and errors they come up to the creation of big-engineered organisms which is prominently known as genetically modified organism (GMO),  organism whose genome has been engineered in the laboratory in order to favour the expression of desired physiological traits or the production of desired biological products. In conventional livestock production, crop farming, and even pet breeding, it has long been the practice to breed select individuals of a species in order to produce offspring that have desirable traits. In genetic modification, however, recombinant genetic technologies are employed to produce organisms whose genomes have been precisely altered at the molecular level, usually by the inclusion of genes from unrelated species of organisms that code for traits that would not be obtained easily through conventional selective breeding.

Many industries stand to benefit from additional GMO research. For instance, a number of microorganisms are being considered as future clean fuel producers and biodegraders. In addition, genetically modified plants may someday be used to produce recombinant vaccines. In fact, the concept of an oral vaccine expressed in plants (fruits and vegetables) for direct consumption by individuals is being examined as a possible solution to the spread of disease in underdeveloped countries, one that would greatly reduce the costs associated with conducting large-scale vaccination campaigns. Work is currently underway to develop plant-derived vaccine candidates in potatoes and lettuce for hepatitis B virus (HBV), enterotoxigenic Escherichia coli (ETEC), and Norwalk virus. Scientists are also looking into the production of other commercially valuable proteins in plants, such as spider silk protein and polymers that are used in surgery or tissue replacement (Ma et al., 2003). Genetically modified animals have even been used to grow transplant tissues and human transplant organs, a concept called xenotransplantation. The rich variety of uses for GMOs provides a number of valuable benefits to humans, but many people also worry about potential risks.

What is My Learning Style?

                                  Learn In My Own Way

It is so amazing to know that every learner has their own preferred way to acquire learning. An astonishing realization I have figure out when I studied the different learning styles of learners.
By recognizing and understanding your own learning styles, you can use techniques better suited to you. This improves the speed and quality of your learning.
The Seven Learning Styles
·         Visual (spatial): You prefer using pictures, images, and spatial understanding.
·         Aural (auditory-musical): You prefer using sound and music.
·         Verbal (linguistic): You prefer using words, both in speech and writing.
·         Physical (kinesthetic): You prefer using your body, hands and sense of touch.
·         Logical (mathematical): You prefer using logic, reasoning and systems.
·         Social (interpersonal): You prefer to learn in groups or with other people.
·         Solitary (intrapersonal): You prefer to work alone and use self-study.
Why Learning Styles? Understand the basis of learning styles
Your learning styles have more influence than you may realize. Your preferred styles guide the way you learn. They also change the way you internally represent experiences, the way you recall information, and even the words you choose. We explore more of these features in this chapter.
Research shows us that each learning style uses different parts of the brain. By involving more of the brain during learning, we remember more of what we learn. Researchers using brain-imaging technologies have been able to find out the key areas of the brain responsible for each learning style.
For example:
·         Visual: The occipital lobes at the back of the brain manage the visual sense. Both the occipital and parietal lobes manage spatial orientation.
·         Aural: The temporal lobes handle aural content. The right temporal lobe is especially important for music.
·         Verbal: The temporal and frontal lobes, especially two specialized areas called Brocas and Wernickes areas (in the left hemisphere of these two lobes).
·         Physical: The cerebellum and the motor cortex (at the back of the frontal lobe) handle much of our physical movement.
·         Logical: The parietal lobes, especially the left side, drive our logical thinking.
·         Social: The frontal and temporal lobes handle much of our social activities. The limbic system (not shown apart from the hippocampus) also influences both the social and solitary styles. The limbic system has a lot to do with emotions, moods and aggression.
·         Solitary: The frontal and parietal lobes, and the limbic system, are also active with this style.

The Breakthrough of Science

                The Breakthrough of Science

Many notable persons we have known who shape our past and present with their extraordinary discoveries and inventions. Some of their discoveries bring innocuous development in the world of science, and some inevitably change the lives of the people into a hazardous sophistication. The complexity drastically molds our modern civilization into a complicated one, and now we are facing many challenges on how to cope with acclimation of modernization.

It is so sad to perceive that the victims of these changes are not the elite individuals but the poverty-stricken beings who strive to adapt and chase the ever running development of technology. The best instantiation would be the evolution of the computer gadgets which preeminently dominate our generation today. We can’t deny the fact that computer has successfully pronounced itself as one of the most useful innovations throughout history. It becomes predominant in many fields, like business, ICT, and the like; and even in education as part of the teaching and learning process. Integrating it in the educational system yields an optimistic view of good quality education. Yet, in some extent, many institutions are not well prepared as regards to advancement and change; as a consequence, learners would suffer from insufficient experience acquisition that would lead them to poor learning. Perhaps financially stable learners can manage this dilemma and for those economically unstable would be their disadvantages. It is like creating a blog without internet, and the worst is making an article to be published without any gadgets to do the encoding.

The breakthrough of science are sometimes astonishing to hear and amazing to witness their peculiar function, yet all the stunning features of technology are sometimes just a mask of its true identity. Be careful, be vigilant.
